Angband has lots of variants. Some easier, some harder. This has a "no die" option where you are teleported to town (but with no equipment?), as well as option to regenerate levels without anything good in them ("autoscum"). Items with "free action" prevent you from being paralyzed or stunned.

Magebane 2 is a 3D single player roleplaying game where you command three monks on a quest to recover the holy Amulet of Yendor. Each monk masters a different school of magic, and you must find a balance in upgrading your skills in order to defeat your numerous enemies. Also, you can find various items to enhance your abilities. You control your characters from a zoomable bird's eye view, and you can give orders while the game is paused, or slow down the game to your liking.

Based on Angband, and uses the Amber universe for a setting. Skills upgraded with more practice. I liked Zangband because it had colored ascii characters, including several for the jungle (short grass, long grass, trees, bushes, impassable jungle, dirt, etc.). It's also like a giant map (one view, close up) where you go from city to city.
